India won its first medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 thanks to weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who clinched a Silver medal in the Women’s 49 Kg category. In her second attempt, Chanu lifted 115 kg, setting a new record at the Olympics.

In Chanu’s attempt to lift 117 kg, however, she was unable to lift the weight and had to settle for the Silver medal, her first Olympics medal. Hou Zhihui of China won the gold medal. As part of the same category, Cantik Windy Aisah of Indonesia took bronze.
